Why I got off of birth control
After 8 years of being on and off birth control, I felt like something wasn’t right, and I did not feel in tune with my body.
I was taking oral contraceptive on the daily-honestly it was whatever generic brand Plan Parenthood gave me.
My periods started to become almost nonexistent...at first it dwindled from 5 days, to 3, 2, then none. Birth control also started to effect my sex drive, in a negative way and when I realized that I was like OH HELL NO. So I decided to get off the pill, and just like that I went cold turkey.
My ass was not prepared for was the imbalance of hormones that occurred the few months after getting off the pill.
My periods came back with a vengeance.
I was convinced my uterus was angry with me for trying to contain it all these years. My menstrual cycle was so intense, I would throw up and borderline pass out from the pain and loss of blood. I couldn’t even stand because of the horrible pain my cramps gave me.
Holistic Jess was persistent on finding natural cures to heal myself and I did not want to take pain killers for the horrible cramps so I was really on a mission. It took about 4-6 months for me to get my body back, and I finally feel connected with myself. I even UNINTENTIONALLY lost 20 pounds-that’s right without even trying.
I realized at the moment birth control most definitely contributed to my weight gain.
During the transition to “Holistic Jess” I began eating more organic food.
I eliminated processed foods with ingredients like soy lecithin and corn syrup, and I cut off drinking soda or artificial juices. All that shit just increases inflammation ...and you know what cramps are? Inflammation of your fucking uterus going to war with itself.
The game changer was when I started to incorporate organic Maca powder into my daily diet. I would put about 1 tablespoon in my coffee every morning. You can also add it into smoothies.
THIS CHANGED EVERYTHING! Not just for myself, but multiple clients had great results from Maca powder too. I knew I wasn’t alone with the power of maca, hence why I posted that blog called “ The Power of Maca”.
Back to hollistic uterus health...
On the days approaching my period, I would make myself a ginger and cinnamon tea.
Ginger helps to reduce muscle pain and inflammation. I also would increase my organic grass fed meat intake the week of my period, because I know my body needed iron and protein.
YOU ARE WHAT YOU EAT AND THIS PROCESS HELPED MADE ME REALIZE THAT.
As a hair stylist I have noticed an increase of thinning hair amongst my clients that are on birth control-especially the really strong ones like the depo-shot. That shit has some severe side effects. Google it.
I have also noticed an increase of acne, mood swings, and weight gain amongst my clients who started the pill, but I can always tell because their hair gets sooo thin in the front along the hairline. Thinning hair along the hairline -for women, is a sign of hormone imbalance .
Birth control numbs you from being in tune with your body. Some people think it helps to regulate your hormones , but if you have imbalanced hormones there are ways to naturally get better, without artificial estrogen and progesterone.
I refuse to go back on the pill, especially after how I feel now. I am connected to my body again, I feel like I never want to disconnect again. The only down side to getting off the pill was the fact that my breast went from a FULL D CUP TO A BABY B. I have now joined the itty bitty titty committee and I am learning to embrace it. The other downside is accidentally getting pregnant if you are not planning for it. But, now I’m woke and I know when I am ovulating ( because my ovaries are like “please fertilize me”) so around that time of the month I am extra careful and I make sure to wrap it up so I don’t create a little monster yet. This method has worked for 2 years and ya girl has been safe. Be smart and intuitive with your body. Watch what you put into it ladies...quality only. 💕
