Reasons why your hair can be thinning...

Reasons why your hair can be thinning...

This is for anyone who feels like their hair is excessively thinning and falling out.
Our hair and skin always sends us signs of how we are internally .

Sometimes this is your body’s way of telling you something is up…If it’s more than 2 handfuls of hair, and you notice increased thinning along your hairline, you should be a little concerned.

To loose a handful of hair is normal, we have about 100 strands that fall out daily. If you don’t wash your hair for 2-3 days, that will accumulate and that is normal.

There is a myriad of reasons as to why your hair may seem to be falling out a lot or feeling thin, here are some top reasons:

  1. Malnutrition & lack of vitamins.

You are what you eat . There is a direct correlation with your diet , hair and skin. The health of your hair and skin is a reflection of the overall state of your well-being. Lack of protein, iron, zinc , folic acid and magnesium are important...it’s more than just Biotin for healthy hair growth. Abnormal eating habits leads to malnutrition. When this happens, the body will help save protein by shifting growing hairs into the telogen phase (aka resting phase). My clients who are anemic and low in iron often have thinner hair.

  2. Stress. This falls under well being too...find some zen. Our body reacts to any kind of stress the same way you would stress about a lion running towards you. Not sure how true that is but a life coach told me that….so try to stress less because stress can cause hair loss. I’ve personally witnessed it within myself and within clients. It’s hard to completely de-stress but finding some zen will totally help.

  3. Hormonal imbalance: Thyroid issues, PCOS, birth control (made a client of mine practically bald ) I blame all the hormones in our meat and food. I believe plants are our medicine, and there are multiple ways to holistically balance your hormones. I also believe birth control is the common denominator in my clients who are loosing their hair. An increase of testosterone levels will actually cause you to have thinner hair on your scalp and more hair on your face and body.

  4. Post baby Bald spots… Mommies tend to loose hair along their hairline and tend to shed a lot. The baby is literally sucking the life out of you and you have to make sure you keep taking those prenatal vitamins . This also kind of falls under hormone imbalance. It’s totally normal, I recommend to keep up with your prenatal vitamins for the first 6 months post baby.

  5. Genetics. Sometimes good old family genetics interfere with our hair growth pattern. If you always had thin hair, it’s always going to be thin boo.

  6. Product build up. Product build up can clog your hair follicles, by not allowing it to let the hair grow properly. Avoid waxes and heavy oils. I recommend using Revive shampoo- it helps to remove any impurities on the scalp and it improves circulation . Our hair is nourished by our blood so stimulating the scalp and increasing circulation helps with hair growth.

  7. Cigarettes . Cigarettes retard hair growth and effects the health and shine of the hair. Cigarette smokers tend to have drier, brittle hair.

  8. Dandruff …understand that dandruff is a FUNGUS and if left untreated, it can cause hair loss. You must use a cleansing shampoo with Tea-tree in it and try to balance out your pH levels internally and externally. Dry scalp vs itchy scalp?

Dry scalp is caused by lack of moisture, it’s super itchy with small flakes. Dandruff has thicker flakes that look like snow, sometimes the flakes stick to the head. It happens for many reasons, and it’s easily cured so don’t stress too much about it just get a tea tree shampoo and drink more water. Balance your PH levels, maybe do a detox.

Morale of thinning hair ?

If you eat like crap your hair and skin will show it. I’m not saying to cut everything out, just try to incorporate some more protein and vitamins with fruits and veggies -preferably organic .  Eliminate artificial and genetically modified ingredients such as high fructose corn syrup .

If your hair is thinning in clumps and it feels like an alarming rate, please get yourself checked  for any hormonal imbalances or health issues .

If you’re in your mid to late 20s and notice your hair is thinning, and it runs in the family …or you might be going through a period of stress…changing your diet might help. Sometimes you can’t fight genetics and you have to just go with it. I would still recommend to get a check up and make sure your hormone and vitamin levels are okay. In the mean time try using a shampoo system like Revive and their biotin Booster. Lastly take vitamins!  (preferably organic and non GMO )
