I went to Spain from Friday to Wednesday.
I technically left Thursday evening.
I took a red eye flight from JFK at 11:45pm and landed in Barcelona in early Friday afternoon.
The flight from NYC to Barcelona is about 7 hours and 40 minutes…and when you land there is a 6 hour time difference. So this option was the best to adjust to the jet lag. I slept like a baby and woke up in Spain. 🇪🇸
Don’t forget a neck pillow for a 4+hour flight!
Here are a few more travel tips so you can sleep like a baby like I did:
Now, here are some tips while traveling in España aka Ethpaña, because they accentuate the lisp.

Getting to the main part of the city from the airport is about a 20 minute cab ride depending on traffic.
The bus is about 20-30 minutes.
You have 2 options:
1: Aero bus transportation is always running every 10 minutes.
$10 round trip from the airport to the city center and back to the airport .
The buses are located on the ground level of the airport.
2: Take a one way ride for €30 with a taxi or Cabify if you have service (Cabify is their version of Uber)
My travel partner and I value money, so we took the Aero Bus…it’s economical and environmentally friendly to take public transportation.
If you don’t mind public transportation, we recommend getting the Bus card for 48 hours and you can ride the metro or buses for free with that card. It’s €22 for an unlimited 48 hours. You can get to Park Guell and around Barcelona easily with their public transportation.
I would much rather spend my money on tapas and sangria.
For the first few days of the trip, we stayed in El Borne which I would highly recommend. It’s such a cute little town, close enough to everything but far enough from the chaos in Las Ramblas. There are a bunch of cozy restaurants and bars in this area.
Where to eat:
La Pineda
Family business for over 80 years.
Places like this warm my heart. My favorite sangria , vermouth, and jamón y queso that I tried in Barcelona was at this little gem.
La Pineda makes their vermouth in house and it’s so so good. It has honey and cinnamon in it, so if you like to feel warm and fuzzy inside I highly recommend to try it. Kicking myself in the ass for not buying a bottle to take home.
It’s only $3.50 Euros for a vermouth glass 😋
Cervecería Catalana Tapas Bar
I suggest to make a reservation or put your name on the list to wait ...it’s worth the wait. There’s usually a long line, but there’s a reason they’re always busy. The food is amazing and so fresh. I recommend to come here for a dinner date. Definitely save room for dessert!
Bodega La Puntual-another yummy tapas bar
I tried their Clara, which is their summer shandy with lime juice. Patatas bravas were on point. It looked good while passing by… we walked in before it got packed.
Enrique Tomás Sagrada Familia
is near La Sagrada Familia…it was recommended to eat for a quick bite when you’re in the area.
Bodega Joan
for Paella 🥘
Lukumás
Good little breakfast place for coffee, donuts and/ or an egg & and cheese sandwich .
Taquerías Tamarindo
Hand made corn Tortilla taco were really good if anyone is looking for something different
Sweets & treats:
Turrones La Campana -
try their non diary homemade drink that tastes like Horchata. It’s actually called Orxata de Xufla. It has an acquired taste, but I loved it!
Address: Carrer de la Princesa, 36, 08003 Barcelona, SpainBe Chocolat
yummy fresh made churros served with warm chocolate
Granja Dulcinea
more yummy churros
La Boqueria
Awesome market that a bunch of yummy snacks and sweets to munch on...keep your purse close to you here, it gets super crowded. There are also a bunch of little restaurants where you can munch on tapas or get a drink at and people watch. Definitely check this market out!

Places to see & things to do:

Visit La Boqueria Market
Explore the town on an electric scooter
Sagrada Familia…as an artist I admired it. Did I want to wait on a line and pay $40 to go inside the church? HA NO, there’s more shit to see and things to do
If you’re traveling with your significant other, find time to do them too.
Hang out like a local at Ciutadella Park.
Enjoy as much tapas and sangria as you can!

St Christopher’s Place Hostel
I would recommend an Air Bnb in the Borne area because I thought it was adorable there.
