NEVER check in these essential items.
Always have the following with you in your carry on bag:
Just in case the airline loses your luggage (or if a TSA agent has sticky fingers) you don't want them taking any of this. Keep these items close by.
Your passport/ID
Money and credit cards
Jewelry, electronics, and other valuables should always be brought onto the plane with you.
Contacts Lenses/Glasses
Underwear/Clothes for a day or two (just in case! Sometimes luggages get lost!)
ALSO, FUN FACT:
Did you know you don't have to buy airport food before going on a long flight? You just can't travel with liquids larger than 3.4 fluid oz.
Here is a list of snacks I suggest packing for long trips:
Apples, bananas, berries
Cookies, crackers, mini cheese, pop corn or chips
protein / candy bar
Nuts, chex mix
a peanut butter and jelly sandwhich-or really any kind of sandwich that makes your stomach happy. Just try not to get anything with a strong scent so you don't stink up the plane.
Don't believe me? Here is the link to TSA's rules and guidlines on what you are permitted to travel with.
As for packing…
Pack dual purpose shoes & clothes.
Like a neutral colored cardigan that can be used day & night. I reccomend to pack light, the more you pack the more shit you have to unpack. You also want to save some space to bring some travel goodies back home.
I also suggest mini waterproof travel bags for toiletries, it just helps to keep things organized.
My other suggestion is a hard case travel luggage. It helps keep your items dry if you ever get stuck in the rain. I bought mine on Amazon. Typically travel luggage is not supposed to be larger than 22inches, but some airlines air annoying so try to stay under 20 inches if you want to avoid checking in your bag.
