Cuba has beautiful beaches. Some are as close as 30 minutes from Havana, and some can be as far as 4 hours.
Here are a few tips and beaches we love in Cuba…
Santa Maria :
35 mins from Havana
There’s 2 ways of getting here. Take the $5 round trip Bus at the Parada in Parque Central. Or you can grab a taxi from here, sometimes they charge $5 each person for a one way taxi, sometime they try to charge you $25 for one way period. I’ve shared taxis with strangers for the $5 each taxi ride, it’s like Uber Pool. Ironically both times I have done it, I ended up with people from New York and New Jersey. The world is small, be a traveler not a tourist.
If you want to be in deep with the locals, Guanabo is the beach. I don’t recommend it if you want to relax and chill, cubans are loud and proud. Music and dominoes will be playing, unless you pass out from drinking, you won’t sleep.
my favorite beaches are the last 2 stops.
Mar azul and Las Terrazas. Mar Azul has better food options, and you can order right on the beach. And Las Terrazas is super chill since it’s the last stop. The water is calm and clean. I recommend to BYOB when you come here. I love bringing snacks like fresh fruits to munch on while spending the day here.
You can buy a fresh coconut with rum for $2.50 at the little shack outside …
Milpa, Cienfuegos
4 hours away from the busy Havana In Cienfuegos, Milpa is a quiet little beach town that I highly recommend for a true local feel of Cuba. Avoid the crowds and hotels, and eat some freshly caught fish at this local gem. . .
