Everyone is constantly asking me how do I travel to Cuba when it is “forbidden” or because of whatever stupid shit Trump says.
It is actually quite simple, people just make it complicated.
You must choose 1 out of the 12 reasons that are authorized to go to Cuba.
We always recommend to “Support the Cuban People.”
One can obtain a visa at the airport prior to going on your flight, the day of your trip.
The visa is $75. Don’t lose it, and keep it with your passport.
The visa includes health insurance in case anything happens to you in Cuba. You do not need American health insurance prior to going. Trust me, my ass doesn’t have insurance. I learned while I was in Cuba that my visa covers me for Cuban health insurance which I thought was pretty awesome.
By supporting the Cuban People, that means staying at an air bnb.Eating at the local restaurants and bars! Take salsa and cooking classes… donate shoes to the kids running around barefoot.
I love to buy fruit or candy on the street from a local.
Buy a WiFi card at the WiFi park when you can’t get it at the Etecsa store….apparently it’s actually illegal and feels like you are doing a drug transaction but whatever you are supporting the local Cubans. You can legally buy WiFi cards at the government run stores, but understand that the line is LONG AF and sometimes after waiting all that time, they RUN OUT OF WIFI CARDS. So just buy it at the WiFi park or ask your air bnb host where to get one.
Cuba will force you to disconnect with your phone and reconnect with yourself anyway, so try to enjoy every moment.
I volunteer for a non profit organization called “Arte Corte” and they support local Cuban hair stylists and the community with amazing projects.
If you are a hair stylist or in the art industry I HIGHLY RECCOMEND VISITING.
Tell Papito I sent you!
One can donate hair products/tools, or even get your hair done here! This is by far the main reason I have been coming back to support them because the passion that is at this school is unlike anything I have felt before. These hair stylist truly love what they do because they want to help people and they will forever have my support.
