Beauty tips for the traveling soul

Moisturizing is key, and it is important to be conscious of hydrating internally and externally.

We can tend to get a bit dehydrated while traveling, because of low humidity on the plane and traveling madness, it’s easy to forget to drink water.

If your skin looks sallow, your pee is yellow, or you have hot ass breath...you needs water ASAP.

Jess’s rule of thumb for lack of dehydration:

Divide your body weight in half, and that is the minimum amount of fluid ounces of water your body needs.

Example, I am 100 pounds so in order to avoid being crusty I have to drink a minimumof 50oz of water A DAY.

I recommend drinking Fiji water because it contains silica and it helps to balance your PH levels. It’s easy to go for the sugar/GMO filled option like soda or juice while traveling but that doesn’t help hydrate our body the way it needs to be.

As for external moisturizing...

I recommend washing your face & applying moisturizer prior to your flight.

If you want to use a facial mask, an hour or so before landing is the best time to ensure you come off the plane with a nice glow. If you’re going somewhere sunny, or coming back from being in the sun, I highly suggest an aloe mask.

If you don’t feel like doing a mask and all that extra cleansing stuff, just spray some Fresh and let it absorb into your skin to moisturize. I love using my Fresh Rose Water Mist to freshen up my skin while on the plane and pressed for time. This is a quick way to hydrate and moisturize with just a few sprays. It’s made with love, rosewater and rose-hip oil, it is soothing and moisturizing. Mario Badescu has a similar popular rose water toner, but for personal reasons I like to support myself and my brand. Try our Fresh tonic 🌹

Traveling tresses :
TSA allows us to travel with liquid items that are less than 3.4 fluid ounces. If you have a product like a shampoo or hair cream you love and you can’t find a travel size version of it, I recommend buying an empty container sold at Harmon’s or the dollar store and refill it yourself.

If you do not want to check in your bag and you travel with a liquid or cream item that is larger than 3.4oz TSA will throw it out.

As far as products I have a few  absolute must pack traveling items.

My top hair travel necessities :

  • Hair serum

  • Dry shampoo

  • Moisturizing hair masque

  • Hair tyes (multiple) & Bobby pins

  • Leave in hair cream

  • Wet brush or comb

Time is precious. While I am traveling/ on vacation I do not like to spend much time styling my hair.

If I have time, the day before traveling I like to blow dry my hair and milk it with dry shampoo until I NEED TO wash it. This guarantees that I am somewhat polished for my trip and I won’t need to spend much time on styling.

If I do not have time to straighten my hair or if I want to be nice to my curls while traveling I highly suggest to condition your hair as much as possible. Especially if you will be in the salt or pool water.

Curly girls and clients with color treated hair need to give their hair more love.

Going into the salt/pool water changes the Ph levels and porosity of your hair.

It will open your cuticle and dry your hair.

USE A HAIR MASQUE AND SULFATE FREE SHAMPOO.

I cannot express this enough, in fact I actually tell my clients to leave conditioner in their hair if they know they’re going to the beach or pool.

Pack a travel size masque and keep it with you. Trust me your hair won’t feel as shitty after a day in the sun and water...you’re welcome.

If you have a fashion color or blonde hair, your toner will wash out so you have to use a blue/violet shampoo or conditioner to help maintain the color and avoid brassy tones. As far as a fun color like pink or purple hair, ask your colorist for the best maintenance. Evo hair and Viral have some great products to keep your color fresh and fun.

I also like to recommend having a positive personality . I like to think our happy hormones help to boost an external glow. Don’t be an ugly bitch who gives everyone and everything an attitude. It doesn’t matter how pretty you are an ugly personality will ruin you. Happy girls are the prettiest girls. So if you’re having a shitty day just remember things can always be worse.
